Engineering Ebooks: Power Generation Technologies

This book is primarily about the ways of generating electricity. It does not cover the means of transporting electricity and delivering it to those who wish to use it. Nor does it treat, except obliquely, the political issues that attach themselves to electricity supply. What it does attempt, is to provide an explanation of all the myriad ways that man has devised to produce this most elusive of energy forms. The book is divided into chapters with one chapter devoted to each type of electricity generation. The explanations provided are thorough and
technical where necessary but do not resort to overly technical language where this can be avoided. Readers, who are seeking a full analysis of the thermodynamics of the heat engine, or the differential equations for solving the problem of turbine flow, will need to look elsewhere.

Engineering Ebook: Sensors and Transducers, 3rd Edition

The purpose of this book is to explain and illustrate the use of sensor and transducers associated with electronics circuits. The steady spread of electronic circuits into all aspects of life, but particularly into all aspects of control technology, has greatly increased the importance of sensors which can detect, as electrical signals, changes in various physical quantities. In addition, the conversion by transducers of physical quantities into electronics signal and vice versa has become an important part of electronics.

Thesis on Security and Control System for fluid in a tank

This rapport describes how a security and control system has been developed for moveable diesel tanks. Enormous amounts of diesel in Sweden are stolen every year and the tank that is most vulnerable is the moveable tank in other words tanks that can be moved around with diesel inside. The report proposes methods how to measure fluid amount in a tank and how to measure if diesel is disappearing from the tank. The report also describes a tank monitoring system prototype.

Thesis on Reliable Communication over Optical Fading Channels

In free space optical communication links, atmospheric turbulence causes random fluctuations in the refractive index of air at optical wavelengths, which in turn cause random fluctuations in the intensity and phase of a propagating optical signal. These intensity fluctuations, termed “fading,” can lead to an increase in link error probability, thereby degrading communication performance. Two techniques are suggested to combat the detrimental effects of fading, viz., (a) estimation of channel fade and use of these estimates at the transmitter or receiver; and (b) use of multiple transmitter and receiver elements. In this thesis, we consider several key issues concerning reliable transmission…
